Hi! I'm Krista, aka: Alchemy Mortgages - licensed with Sky Financial The Mortgage Centre.
I'm a 25+ year resident of Calgary, Alberta having moved from northern Saskatchewan where I was born and raised in La Ronge, a small town on the shores of Saskatchewan’s fifth-largest lake. Growing up in La Ronge meant long cold winters spent on snowmobiles under aurora borealis skies and lake-life summers slathered in mosquito spray and sunscreen. Other than the very real dual threat of frost and mosquito bites, I wouldn’t have changed any of it!
My initial culture shock of instant ‘City Life’ and the absence of lake and forest access in Calgary was soon eclipsed by my excitement. My first apartment was a tiny one-bedroom overlooking downtown and the Bow River and taking in that view for the first time, all I saw was the seemingly endless opportunity that this next chapter and my new city had in store for me – I had arrived!!
Inevitably, our vision of ‘home’ often evolves as we move through life. Sometimes that evolution is intentional; other times, unexpected and far from what we originally envisioned. My own journey within Calgary since the day I arrived has taken many shapes across different neighborhoods, shifting with life’s inevitable zigs and zags. Eventually, through perseverance, savings, and a bit of economic leveraging, I reached my forever-home goal—ironically, right back in the area where my Calgary story began over 20 years ago. I’m once again living near downtown and the Bow River, surrounded by parks and nature. I’ve found a deep sense of belonging and gratitude for my community.
I love supporting our vibrant local businesses and find real fulfillment in paying forward the guidance and encouragement I’ve received throughout my own journey.
Why 'Alchemy Mortgages'?
Alchemy, in its historical form, was the ancient practice of transforming base metals into noble ones (like lead into gold) and seeking the philosopher’s stone—a mythical substance believed to grant eternal life and enlightenment. But beyond its literal aims, alchemy has long been seen as a metaphor for personal transformation along our life journey.
The alchemist's lab is symbolic of us and our human condition. All the "experiments" based on life’s ingredients - failures, learning, self-reflection, rebuilding - our inner work leading to transformation and our achievement. As a mortgage broker, I feel so fulfilled in helping my clients navigate their own journeys to achieving what “home” means for them.
